Behind The Card | ripe cards by Michelle Durkin

November 19, 2011

Michelle Durkin began her career as a CPA, but still wonders if she might have been hungover the morning she had to choose her major.

Spurred to end her finance career due to an unfortunate desire to stab her eyeballs out with a rusty nail rather than look at another balance sheet, Michelle ventured into greeting cards after a similarly unfortunate card-shopping experience in which bunnies, rainbows and unicorns made her want to vomit. Luckily for us (and the greeting card world at large), those urges faded and the edgy line of greeting cards that emerged as a result became part of Recycled Paper Greetings family in 2008.

Fun Fact

Michelle admits she was inspired to use the first two letters of her daughters’ names (Riley and Peyton) for her greeting card line, even though the definition of ripe is mature and stinky.
